Pohnpei Sailing Club Update

The Pohnpei Sailing Club completed the New Years Cup races in January and has returned to the core task of training an ever growing cadre of young sailors. The club continues to use four Topper boats generously provided by Kiyoshi Umezu. Kazuo Ishikawa continues to handle the on the water instruction.

    1. No sign-up date per se. Swimming skills and the ability to be comfortable in deep water are prerequisites. Most of the sailors are eight and older, typically 10 to 13, six might be too light to right a turtled sailboat – one stands on the dagger board to pull the sail up out of the water. All of the sailors seem to be able to swim 50 meters in the open lagoon and more without difficulty.
